2024: Checkpoint Reached with Anya Melamed and Sapna S V.

As we wrap-up 2024, we put our Senior Business Development Manager, Anya Melamed, and Senior Art Manager, Sapna SV, in the hot seat to review the year and look ahead to 2025. Hear their highlights, predictions on emerging opportunities, the impact of accessible technology, and expectations for the industry’s rebound.

Q. What have been your 2024 highlights?

Sapna: For Technicolor Games, we welcomed the year by moving into a bigger floor in our Bangalore studio, which meant more in-person collaborative work along with a major uptake of coffee consumed. On a global scale, it was interesting to observe the dynamics at play which AI, new technologies, and competitive markets have been driving.

Q. What has been your favourite Technicolor Games title this year, and why?

Anya: I’d have to say Dragon Age: The Veilguard holds a special place for me. Having collaborated with the BioWare team in various capacities over the years, it’s been incredibly rewarding to see how Technicolor Games’ stunning visual effects and animations have helped bring this rich fantasy world to life. It feels like watching a universe I’ve grown fond of evolve into something even more immersive.

Sapna: EA Sports FC 25 because of the new upgrades in tactics and quality, as well as the new features. Year-on-year, just when you think the franchise can’t get any better, it does! It’s a pleasure to be a part of.

Q. Do you have any predictions for 2025 within the Games industry?

Anya: By 2025, I’m hoping we’ll see the Games industry bounce back in a big way after a couple of tough years. One area I think will really get interesting, is the console market. Nintendo’s new system could finally give the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S a real run for their money. And honestly, with the popularity of portable options, I’m pretty sure we’ll get more devices geared towards playing wherever and whenever you want.

At the same time, I believe we’ll move away from the idea that “bigger and flashier” always means “better.” Seeing simpler, more polished titles capture players’ attention lately makes me think people really value approachable, well-crafted gameplay. Thanks to engines like Unreal Engine 5 and Unity 6, indie developers can now create awesome, immersive worlds without pouring all their energy into extreme visual fidelity. Plus, I’m really curious to see how generative AI shakes things up by giving NPCs more natural and varied conversations instead of the same old canned lines.

After all the studio downsizing and massive budgets we’ve seen, I’m hoping 2025 brings a return to more sustainable, creatively driven projects that combine AAA ambition with indie sensibilities. If we can focus on what truly matters—fun, engaging, and memorable experiences—then developers and players alike will end up happier. I think this shift could help steer the industry into a more balanced and inventive era.

Sapna: The Games industry will continue to see positive leaps forward in innovation, due to immersive games (VR) taking lead and gaming becoming more all-inclusive, irrespective of age and gender. For us as a company, this means more learning and adapting to be the first in the race — bring it on!

Q. What are you looking forward to most in 2025?

Anya: In 2025, I’m really looking forward to seeing Technicolor Games step up and embrace the industry’s evolving landscape in ways that highlight our flexibility, quality, and team spirit. With new consoles battling it out and more portable gaming experiences shaping player expectations, I’m excited about how we’ll adapt—whether that’s by exploring different platforms, refining our production pipelines, or finding fresh ways to support innovative projects. I think there’s a real opportunity for us to show just how versatile we can be, not just through the games we help create, but also in how we grow and challenge ourselves internally.

What really excites me is the balance we’ll strike between ambition and sustainability. After the industry’s recent ups and downs, I hope we’ll continue leaning into well-crafted, memorable experiences that don’t require huge, risk-heavy investments. At Technicolor Games, we’ve built a strong foundation of talent and expertise over the years, and I believe 2025 will be about leveraging that foundation to experiment, refine, and push our creative boundaries. This is our chance to lead by example—focusing on truly engaging content, strong partnerships, and a team-driven approach that keeps us moving forward, no matter what the industry throws our way.

Sapna: I’m really looking forward to projects taking shape in 2025. The industry has gone through a tough and lengthy post-covid phase, but we have all started to get busier and things have started to move more rapidly again, which is a positive way to start the new year.
