Name: Jason Abby George

Title: Mid Artist

Department: Animation

Length of career in the industry: 2+ years

First game worked on at Technicolor Games: The Settlers: New Allies

I’ve always valued personal projects as a means of personal and professional development.

How did your career begin?

My professional journey started at Maya Digital Studios, now known as COSMOS Maya, in 2012. During this period, I worked as a Keyframe Animator on various domestic television projects. In 2014, I moved to Xentrix Studios, where I spent over six years working on TV series for a number of international clients. The most fulfilling part of being an animator at this stage of my career was seeing the joy on a child’s face as they watched the shows we helped create.

Tell us about your first project at Technicolor Games

The first game I worked on was, “The Settlers: New Allies”, by Ubisoft Blue Byte. It was a really cool opportunity for me as I transitioned from keyframe animation to game animation. The switch went really smoothly, thanks to the awesome support from my lead and the production team. I was also, still able to incorporate keyframe animation in the game cinematics.

What has been your most memorable moment working at Technicolor Games?

Every project has unique memories and experiences, but the one that stands out for me personally is the Disney Speedstorm project that we completed with Gameloft. Working with the iconic Disney Pixar characters was a truly unforgettable experience. The exceptional support I received from my Supervisor and Team Lead motivated me to deliver my very best work.

What are you excited about for the future?

Looking into the future, the Gaming industry has a lot of exciting potential. The constant improvements in making games more realistic and detailed point to an awesome future. Nowadays, advances in game engine tech have also made it possible for indie game developers to create great characters and immersive levels right from home.

What advice would you give to someone wanting to join the industry?

If you’re a student in 3D animation or already working in a related field, it’s crucial to connect with professionals in the Gaming industry to gain valuable insights. Joining the Technicolor Academy is an awesome chance to receive top-notch training. Also, make sure to keep up with the fast-paced changes in the Gaming industry. It’s an exciting time, and being well-informed is essential. Self-motivation and continuous learning are key.

On that note, how do you stay motivated beyond working hours?

I’ve always valued personal projects as a means of personal and professional development. During my free time, putting my mind to a task encourages me to enhance my skills and explore new software. The work-from-home flexibility provides me with the best opportunity to dedicate time to such projects.

One of the most significant outcomes of working on my personal projects, led to being selected for the 2023 Unreal Fellowship: Animation program by Epic Games. This amazing opportunity gave me access to invaluable software knowledge, guidance from industry-experienced mentors, and attendance to inspiring lectures.
