During the summer, there’s no better way to beat the heat than with games, games, and more games – and some of the industry’s biggest events, including E3, Comic-Con, and XDS.
In anticipation of some of the hottest games to be released in the months ahead, the 2017 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) saw a 30% increase in attendance from last year’s show – with over 68,000 artists, gamers, and enthusiasts visiting the Los Angeles Convention Center. Technicolor Games is beyond excited about the newly announced games from our partner studios Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, and Sony Interactive Entertainment. Here’s a quick run-down of the news they shared at E3:
- – Electronic Arts announced several projects including the upcoming installments of their popular sports franchises Madden NFL 18, due to release August 25, 2017; NHL 18 releasing this fall; and FIFA 18, scheduled to release on September 29, 2017.
- – EA also announced the release date for Need for Speed Payback (November 10, 2017), the twenty-third installment of the open world racing series, Need for Speed. Battlefield 1 In The Name Of The Tsar DLC comes out in September, introducing audiences to a plethora of new maps and weapons, and a new game mode. And their action role-playing game Anthem is slated for a Fall 2018 release.
- – Ubisoft Toronto’s Starlink: Battle for Atlas is a part of the ‘toys-to-life’ genre, enabling players to explore the depths of space and compile teams of starfighter pilots. The project is due to release in Fall 2018.
- – Sony Interactive Entertainment’s eighth installment of the action-adventure game God of War will release in early 2018.
Congratulations to all the talented teams who help bring these games to fruition. We can’t wait to get our hands on them!
Moving on to other events this summer, Comic-Con International in San Diego has a strong gaming component with something new this year: Game Creator Connection and Game Pitch Review. These sessions give professional and aspiring game developers an opportunity to gain valuable insights and mentoring advice from seasoned pros with diverse backgrounds in production, programming, art, business development, and more. Participants can even sign-up to pitch their best game idea and then get constructive criticism from a panel of professional developers.
As summer winds down, the action moves to Canada for XDS 2017 in Vancouver, BC. With Technicolor serving as a sponsor, the focus of this event is on external development for art, animation, audio, software engineering, and more. The annual games industry summit attracts game developers, vendors, trade organizations, and middleware providers from over 36 countries. Expect keen insights from XDS’s acclaimed Video Game Industry report, such as changing trends, top tools, and other data gathered from over 200 leading developers and service providers.
